Dear Beers Street Families,
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable summer. The Beers Street Team has been hard at work preparing for the new school year. We are ready to provide students with an excellent educational experience. Below you will find helpful information for your child's return to school.
The parent portal opens Friday, August 26, and student schedules will be available for viewing. You can find a link to the parent portal on our new homepage: hazlet.org/o/bses. If you have any issues accessing the parent portal, don't hesitate to contact the school secretary, Maria Sansolo, at (732) 264-1107 ext. 3001.
All parents must complete an online emergency card for each of their children attending the Hazlet Township School District every year. This information is crucial for reunification purposes. You can find instructions and links for the Emergency Card Registration here. There you can also find instructions for updating your Realtime contact information. Realtime is used to contact you in case of emergencies and send weather-related alerts, reminders, theme days, and special upcoming events. Please check the box so that you may receive these important email and text alerts.
All 5th graders (and new to the district 6th graders) will receive a new Chromebook. However, parents must first acknowledge the Chromebook Responsibility Contract located in the parent portal. Please click the link, follow the instructions and electronically sign off on the Chromebook Responsibility Contract in the parent portal. Please do this so we may distribute the Chromebooks as soon as possible.
Orientation for all 5th grade students (including new 6th grade students) and their parents/guardians will take place on Friday, September 2 at 1:00 PM in the gymnasium. I'll share an overview of Beers Street School and introduce our teachers and staff. In addition, students will have an opportunity to visit their classrooms and meet their teachers. This helps to alleviate some of the new school jitters.
The first day of school for all students is Tuesday, September 6. School hours are 8:10 AM to 2:50 PM. Students should not arrive at school before 8:00 AM, as there is no supervision at that time.
Parents dropping their children off should follow these guidelines. Between 8:00 AM and 8:10 AM, please pull up to the curb and drop off your child at the "SLOW!" sign. Please wait for a staff member to receive your child. Here students can exit safely onto the sidewalk. Please do not drop off students in the "BUS ZONE" marked by yellow lines. Following these guidelines helps to maintain a clear pathway for buses entering the parking lot and for students to exit their vehicles safely. Dismissal begins at 2:50 PM. Pick-up and walking 6th grade students will be dismissed on the north side and will be escorted to the main parking lot. Pick-up and walking 5th grade students will be released from the south side (adjacent to the Beers Street Park). We ask that 5th grade parents park in the lot to the left of the school next to the park. If you arrive late to school (after 8:10 AM), please park in the visitor lot and escort your child to the main office entrance, door #1.
Bus times and locations are available to view in the parent portal. If you have questions regarding bus transportation, please contact the Transportation Department at 732-264-8404, Ex. 1115.
Breakfast and lunch will be offered beginning Tuesday, September 6. The price of school breakfast is $1.65, and school lunch is $2.95. You must have enough funds in your child's account to order breakfast or lunch. Applications for Free or Reduced Lunch will be available electronically on Realtime through the parent portal. You must apply every year. Students will order lunch & breakfast daily during homeroom. If students order breakfast, they should arrive at school at 8:00 AM. You may find the lunch menu on the Beers Street School homepage.
If, at any time this year you determine your child should stay home from school due to illness or any other reason, please call the Health Office and inform the nurse, Pat Raphael, at 732-264-1107 ext. 3003. Please note the district's attendance policy. Students will lose credit after 16 absences. Students must be in school for a minimum of one hour of classroom instruction before lunch and one hour after lunch for students to be considered present.
This year we incorporated a W.I.N. period (What I Need) into each student's schedule. During this time, students may receive additional instruction and assistance. Our mission is to strengthen areas in which students may need further support. Likewise, we will offer extended learning and enrichment opportunities during this time.
Back to School Night is on Monday, September 12 at 7:00 PM. If your child needs additional support or if you have concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. It is our mission to support your child in whatever way we can. Enjoy the rest of the summer, and we look forward to the start of a new school year!
Sincerely,
Ian Collis
