Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG)
Our mission is to facilitate communication between students, parents, community members, Special Services administrators, and the Board of Education, for the purpose of improving the quality of district-wide special education policies, programs, and practices.
The SEPAG Executive Board, which consists of Parent Volunteers, hosts several parent community meetings each year, bringing parents together in an informal and confidential setting. The purpose of these meetings is to engage parents in conversation, empowering the collective Special Education Parent Community to:
Provide direct input on the policies, programs and practices that impact services and supports for children with disabilities and their families.
Increase the involvement of families of children with special needs in making recommendations on special education policy.
Advise on matters that pertain to the education, health and safety of children with special needs.
Advise on unmet needs of children with disabilities.
Be assured: Parents are NOT required to be experts on IEP’s, disabilities, or learning differences in order to fully participate in these meetings – you are the experts on your children! We welcome ALL parents who are interested in learning more about how to best support their child during their academic career.
Friends of Diverse Learners (FDL)
Our mission is to enhance the education of children who have different learning styles, bringing families together to share ideas, information, and resources, creating an in-district parent support network. Hazlet’s FDL also collaborates with neighboring districts throughout the school year to offer free parent education seminars led by topic-expert speakers and monthly parent support group meetings.
No annual fee or fundraising is required to make an impact – just YOU.
