High School Solar
HAZLET TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT

SOLAR PROJECT

The Hazlet Township Board of Education agreed to enter into a Power Purchase Agreement with Ray Angelini, Inc. of Sewell, NJ and Nautilus Solar Energy, LLC of Summit, NJ for the provision of solar power.  The District, along with these two companies, designed the solar generating system, including roof top solar panels, ground arrays and parking canopies at three schools. Raritan High School has roof top and parking canopies that will produce 809,000 kilowatts of electricity, Hazlet Middle School has roof top and ground mounted solar systems that will produce 437,000 kilowatts and the Lillian Drive School's parking canopies will produce 93,000 kilowatts for a grand total of almost 1.4 million kilowatts.

The systems at all three schools are now complete. The system will produce over 20 million kilowatts of electricity and save the District $1.7 million, over the next fifteen years. Hazlet will save $118,000 in the first year alone. Hazlet will see an 18% reduction in the District's electrical costs. Over two years was spent planning this project and a year designing and installing the system. The Board of Education looks forward to the significant energy benefits of this project as it comes on-line.

Middle School SolarUnlike most typical solar installationsfor school districts across the State, Hazlet is not paying for the system, expected to cost approximately $7.5 million. Under the terms and conditions of the contract, Nautilus Solar Energy, LLC is financing the system, while Ray Angelini, Inc. is completing the installation at the three schools and is responsible for maintaining the system. The School District has committed to purchasing all of the electricity the system produces at a rate significantly below market cost. We are proud to be one of the first Districts in the State to complete this eco-friendly project, while saving a significant amount of money, at no cost to our community.

Fat Spaniel's Solar Energy Monitoring Websites

This monitoring and reporting service showcases valuable solar system information through dynamic graphics, live and historical system performance data, alerting notification, and greenhouse gas avoidance numbers. It is accessible using any web-enabled device.

Fat Spaniel makes the most of clean energy systems by providing Web views that show information such as how much it is producing, what the temperature and irradiance conditions are, and what quantities of greenhouse gases you are avoiding. These views let end-users see how the system is performing. This visibility is useful for education as well as for operations and maintenance purposes. Customers can gain greater insight into how the critical information services increase the investment returns on renewable energy systems.
